Camilla R. Nicolaisen is an artist and curator currently based in Tromsø. Her artistic practice involves film, drawing, ceramic structures, sound art and installations with natural materials. Conceptually, the overarching theme in her art practice relates to alternative knowledges connected to ecology and habitats. Often seeking to go beyond the underlying western concept of dichotomies that create artificial separations. From a phenomenological starting point she explores how local knowledge(s) of nature exist(s) and can find their way into our globalised world. More generally, she sees her work, both as an artist and curator, as part of a global movement to challenge the dominant narratives linked to colonisations, gender norms and consumerism.
