Julia Nikitina was born in Salekhard, Northern Russia. She was raised by a single mother from a Ural village. She writes that often feels disconnected from her roots: her family traditions and mother's land feel very foreign to her. So she´s had to determine for herself what traditions are hers and to build a connection with the place where she was born. This connection is important theme in her art practice. She also explores themes of physicality, subjective experience and the limitations associated with mental and physical health.
